Marth looked up at the sky, laying his sword on the ground where he sat and starting thinking about a time a long time ago, long before he was involved in any battles. Things were much more peaceful when he was a child. He was surrounded by his family and servants who always took such good care of him, as well as many friends who he played with.

But there was one friend in particular that he couldn’t take his mind off of even to this day. A tiny girl named (Name) who was around the same age as himself. Even though she wasn’t royalty they were the best of friends. He would always stay with her and play games, but the things that he remembered most about her was her bright and innocent smile and the flower crowns that she had always made for her.

There were days where he would just sit next to her while she skillfully wove different kinds of flowers such as daisies and sunflowers together into a crown. She had always made plenty of them for him even if her hands became sore and red when she was finished. He had felt more proud when she placed the crowns she had made for him on his head than he was when he was wearing his own crown. He would walk around the whole palace with her crown on his head for days on end even if his father advised him against it.

He remembered that (Name) was a poor girl whose family only made a small amount of money to pay their taxes with. Soon enough she had lost her home and her parents had lost their jobs because they didn’t have enough money to pay their taxes. Marth always hated seeing (Name) out on the streets shivering and scavenging for food to feed her family with whenever she could find some.

She still came over to play with him despite her weakening conditions and she still smiled happily whenever she was around him as if nothing was wrong with her. But Marth knew that she was starving whenever he saw her. Her face was paler and her body was thinner than before she lost her home. She looked so sickly that he felt horrified just to see her in such a state. Even so, she never asked him for food or money because she told him that she would feel guilty about asking for so much from him. One day he had approached his father and begged for him to take (Name) and her family in to live in their palace. He had eventually gotten his father to agree to his request and she was shocked to hear the news the next day. (Name) was so grateful to him that she gave him a big hug and made even more flower crowns for him each day.

(Name) continued to live with him in his palace under the condition that she would become a maid and a soldier to him and his family. She didn’t mind working at all because they had provided food, money and a home, and the fact that she was working for her best friend made her even happier. She stayed with him until the day that the Gra soldiers attacked his kingdom. She had made sure that he was able to get out of his room and escape to safety while she stayed behind to fight off their forces. He had never seen her again after that.

Looking back on those moments now made him laugh a bit and then sigh. He missed (Name) and her flower crowns more than ever now that he was in the middle of all of this chaos. He had taken those moments with her for granted and he regretted that now.  He didn’t know how strong his feelings were for her until they had been separated from each other. He had started to love her without ever realizing it. He would give anything to be back in those days with her. He wanted to know if she was safe or if she was still alive.

He tried not to focus on thoughts of her but he couldn’t help it. It felt like his sadness from her lack of presence was growing each day and his heart grew heavier with each passing hour. He was worrying about her even more since tomorrow would be the day that he and his army were attacking an enemy fortress. Every battle made him feel like he was getting farther and farther away from her. As for the upcoming battle, he had received reports from a neighboring village that a strong military soldiers were taking many innocent people hostage and nobody really know what those people would end up doing to them.

Marth picked up his sword and stood up from the ground, walking back to the campsite where his army and his tent awaited him to wish him a fair night.

~*The Next Day~*

Marth woke up to Frey standing over him and shaking him awake. The sun shone through his tent behind him, signaling the start of a new day. “It’s time to wake up milord,” Frey said. “Become prepared for this next battle.”

Marth nodded and sat up. “Thank you Frey,” he said. Frey nodded before he turned around and walked out of his tent. Marth put on his cape and sheathed his sword before walking out of his tent. Then some random guy ran past screaming ‘Britain is going to get me!’ and disappeared. Cain and Abel were also awake and grooming their horses, brushing through their manes and feeding them a few pieces of carrot.

“Good morning Prince Marth,” Cain said as he petted behind his horses ears.

“Good morning to you too Cain,” Marth replied. “I hope you and everyone else fares well in this battle.”

“As do I my prince,” Abel said. “We’re battling Dolhr as soon as we move out. Who knows what could happen during this battle. Just be careful Prince Marth.”

“Thank you Abel,” Marth said before he went to meet up with Frey. Frey was also grooming and feeding his horse enough food to last it through the battle. “Is everyone else awake Frey?”

“Not quite milord,” Frey said. “There are still some that are resting from yesterday. Everyone will be awake when we move out in an hour.”

“Very well,” Marth said before walking past Frey to take a walk. The sun shone brightly from the sky and the wind made only the slightest breeze. It was a shame that a battle had to be fought on such a beautiful day. He kept walking along the camp grounds until he came upon a field of flowers. The flowers made him have thoughts of (Name) again. Marth sighed and sat down among the flowers. He closed his eyes as a sense of peace started to fill his entire being. Remembering her made him forget about all of the horrible things in the world and brought him back to a more peaceful time. The scent of the flowers surrounded him, making it feel like (Name) was sitting right there next to him. He really wish that she was. He missed her so much, now more than ever. He wanted to know if she was still alive so that he could find her.

He was so purely captivated by his memories that he was aware of Frey coming behind him. He saw Marth laying down in a field of flowers. He must have fallen asleep somehow. “Milord?” He kneeled down and shook his shoulder to get him to wake up?

“Huh?” Marth mumbled out slightly and lifted himself from the ground, rubbing his eyes. “O-oh, Frey. What is the matter?”

“Everyone is awake and ready to go into battle. You should come join us.”

“Alright I’ll be right there, Frey.” Marth stood up and took his sword into his hand. “I’m prepared so long as everyone else is too.” He walked with Frey and met up with everyone else. Cain and Abel were already mounted on their horses, and Caeda upon her pegasus. The rest of Marth’s army were getting their weapons ready for the battle ahead. Everyone seemed as determined as ever to fight.

He looked around at all of his comrades, his closest friends. He had been through so much with all of them, and even this battle would seem like a very important one. Well, it was important with so many innocent lives at stake. Everyone seemed to be ready in just a matter of minutes.

“Well, everyone. Let’s head out.”

~~~~~~~~~
Not too long after, everyone had been thrown into the midst of battle. The enemy fighters were competent in battle, but Marth’s army still had the advantage over them. Lena had been healing her allies with her Heal staff while her brother Matthis stayed by her side to protect her. Cain and Abel were attacking their enemies together with their lances as they rode on their horses through the fortress. Caeda was attacking from the skies with her lance on her pegasus and Navarre was striking their enemies down with his Killing Edge sword. Merric and Linde were working together using their magic to take their enemies down, blasting them with Fire and Thunder tomes one by one. Julian and Rickard were going around the fortress, unlocking treasure chests and picking the locks on doors around the fortress with swords in hand while Ogma, Barst, Cord and Bord took down the enemies that started approaching him with axes and a sword. Everyone in Marth’s army was doing exceptionally well in the battle as far as their attacks and strategies went.
At some instances prisoners would be rushing out of the doors that Julian and Rickard opened, thanking him and Marth endlessly before running out to safety. Darros, Draug, Jeorge and Gordin helped the people escape while keeping the enemy forces away from them with their javelins and Gordin and Jeorge’s bow. Caesar and Radd fought the enemies outside and made a path for the prisoners. Jake stayed outside the castle and shot Arrowspates from afar into the castle and hit all of the enemies he aimed for. Maria stayed outside and healed the injured prisoners before they were able to get away while Minerva stayed by her side just in case enemies started coming her way.
Marth had went ahead of everyone with only Frey, Roger, and Bantu at his side. He advanced with them in search for the commander of the army. Soon enough they had found a separate chamber in a place that no one else had even thought to look. Marth and Frey worked together to knock the door down until it almost burst off its hinges. Marth held his sword in his hand as he walked into the chamber. It was dark so his eyes had to adjust to the room. It seemed pretty empty but the room could be bigger than it seemed.
Suddenly, two torches lit up in the room and everyone’s eyes fell upon a girl lying weakly on the floor with her wrists and ankles chained up along with a collar attached to a chain around her neck. Standing over her was none other than the commander that the villagers described. The poor girl looked beaten and frail, and it didn’t seem like her abusers spared her any mercy. The girl looked up at Marth as soon as she found the strength to move and waves of pain and guilt started to fill him. Now he recognized her all too well. It was (Name), and she had been put in one of the most horrific of states.
“M-Marth...” (Name) said barely above a whisper but a smile seemed to form on her lips as well as tears in her eyes.. Marth started brimming with anger and raised his sword.
“Don’t make any sudden moves, prince,” the commander said. “I wouldn’t ever regret killing this poor girl. She’s only one of the many slaves I have in my collection.”
Marth snarled but tried to keep himself from striking at him. The commander was much closer to (Name) than he was right now so he could easily harm her.
“What should we do milord?” Frey asked, readying his lance.
Marth hesitantly lowered his sword and took a step back. “Don’t do anything to upset him. I don’t want him to hurt her.”
“Good choice, princeling,” the commander said. “Now surrender this battle to me and I might consider letting you and your army go free.
(Name)’s eyes widened as she pulled on her chains. “Don’t do it, Marth!” she said.
“Shut up,” the commander said as he stomped on the chain attached to her collar, slamming her down to the ground and whine in pain.
Marth couldn’t take watching another second of this. He raised his sword again and struck at the commander who barely had any time to retrieve his own sword. He moved out of the way of Marth’s sword and drew his own sword while he was still out of harm’s way.
“Big mistake, princeling,” the commander said as he struck back at Marth with his sword. Marth blocked with his own sword and parried his attack, attempting to knock the sword out of the man’s hand.
“I won’t let you escape this place without facing the justice of my sword, you foul craven.” Marth lifted his sword and thrust it upwards to knock the sword out of the commander’s hand. The sword fell to the ground with a metallic thud and Marth held his sword up against the commander’s neck. Frey moved behind the commander and knocked him unconscious from behind, making him fall to the ground.
Marth sheathed his sword and kneeled down to help (Name) sit upright. “Can you break these chains around her, Bantu?” He said.
“Of course,” Bantu said as he kneeled down and grabbed the chains, pulling each one until the broke and (Name) was completely free of them. She clung onto Marth as he gently picked her up and held her in his arms.
“You’ll be safe from now on, (Name),” Marth said, being very careful not to rub against any of her wounds in fear of hurting her even worse. He kept her close but tried not to keep to firm of a grip on her.
(Name) laid her head on Marth’s chest, feeling exhausted yet relieved that she was finally safe. “Thank you Marth...” She said before she finally fell asleep in his arms. Just seeing her again had made his face light up with a smile, but Frey shook his shoulder which made him remember he had more important things to do right now.
“Let’s get out of here. Frey and Roger, you two get the commander and I’ll get (Name) to safety with Bantu.”
“Yes, milord,” Frey and Roger said as they worked together to pick up the commander and lock his arms behind his back. Marth held (Name) close in his arms as he made his way out of the chambers with Bantu.
After a while of looking for Marth, Hardin rode up on his horse with Wolf, Sedgar, Roshea, and Vyland to meet him. “The enemy reinforcements have surrendered to us, Prince Marth,” Hardin said. “The victory goes to us. The prisoners are free and they are being escorted safely back to their homes.”
“That’s good to know, Hardin,” Marth said. “If every chamber has been thoroughly checked for more prisoners and they have all escaped, we can leave now.” He was glad that everyone was still okay after the battle and all of the prisoners would be able to go back home. The thing that had made him the happiest was knowing that (Name) would be alright and that she would be by his side again. Marth carried (Name) out of the fortress and searched for Lena so (Name) could be healed and relieved of her injuries.
Hardin left to go deliver the news to the other soldiers and soon everyone was ready to move out again. The sun was starting to go down by the time everyone had went to the village of the former prisoners and settled down at an inn. Marth requested a room with a comfortable bed and sufficiently running water, not for him but for (Name). Lena had healed her physical wounds but Marth was pretty sure that she was still exhausted beyond belief. How long she had been a prisoner of that fortress no one could know. Maybe she would find peace in knowing that she would be safe with him from now on.
Marth carried (Name) in his arms to the room that the innkeeper had reserved for him and laid her down gently in the bed. The innkeeper had sent a maid to follow him to his room and leave a bucket of water for Marth to use to clean and dress (Name)’s wounds. He kept a cold cloth on (Name)’s forehead as he used a separate cloth to clean her from head to toe.
“Should I do this for you Prince Marth?” The maid asked. “I should be the one working for you since you saved the people of our village.”
“It’s okay, miss,” Marth said. “(Name) is a good friend of mine. I would like to take care of her and stay by her side until she recovers.”
“Very well. You can call me if you need additional help.” The maid curtseyed for Marth before turning around and leaving the room.
Marth continued cleaning (Name) until she was clean and he was sure her wounds wouldn’t become infected or opened, though he was careful to stay away from the places that were sensitive to her. He didn’t want to accidentally wake her up or make her feel uncomfortable. Marth put the extra cloth back in the bucket and pulled the bed sheets over her body. (Name) slept soundly and curled up under the sheets. Marth sat on the bed next to her and watched her to make sure she would be alright.
(Name) felt Marth’s presence close to her and snuggled close to him, laying her head in his lap as a small smile started to form on her face. Marth stroked her hair out of her face gently and smiled down at her. She was finally with him again. He could finally ensure her safety.
~*The Next Morning*~
By the time Marth was starting to wake up, he could’ve sworn he felt someone kneel down and kiss his cheek ever so gently. He started to open his eyes and saw that (Name) was already awake and walking out of the room. Marth sat up in the bed and watched her as she walked out. He saw his crown lying on the bed stand next to the bed and his cape folded neatly under it. His sword and sheath was leaning against the wall next to the bed stand along with his shoes on the floor next to it. (Name) had always done this for him at nighttime so he could sleep more comfortably.
Marth pulled himself out of bed and put his cape and crown on along with his shoes. He grabbed his sword and attached it to his waist again before leaving the room and following (Name) outside. She was sitting on her knees in a field of flowers not too far away from the inn and was weaving flowers together the same as she did in their childhood.
“You’re up early, (Name),” Marth said as he walked to the field and sat down next to her.
(Name) smiled as she paused her weaving to look up at Marth. “So are you, Marth,” she said as she finished weaving the last few flowers together. She laid the crown of flowers on top of Marth’s head, just as she had down when they were children. “It feels like an eternity since I’ve done that.”
Marth smiled brightly and hugged (Name) close, pulling her into his arms. “It feels the same for me. I’ve missed you so much (Name). I was starting to believe that I would never see you again.”
(Name) laid her head on his shoulder and snuggled closer into his arms. “I knew you would find me again someday, Marth. I stayed strong because I believed that more than anything else in the world.”
Marth lifted (Name) up slightly and leaned down to her, kissing her lips softly and embracing her and the warmth of her soft lips against his own. (Name) hugged Marth around his neck and kissed him back, feeling more safe and secure in his arms than ever before. They stayed like that for what seemed like forever, enjoying the sweet taste of each other’s lips and the warmth from each other’s bodies.
Marth eventually pulled back from (Name) but still stayed close enough to feel her breath on his lips. Looking into her eyes, he said “I love you, (Name).” Her face was flushed from both the kiss and Marth’s confession. “I should have realized that a long time ago. Long before all of this ever happened.”
(Name) stared endlessly back into Marth’s eyes. “I love you too, Marth. I realized it a long time ago but I never thought that you would feel the same about me.”
Marth buried his face in (Name)’s hair, inhaling the scent of flowers that surrounded her whole being. “I did. I was just too ignorant to realize it at first. But now that I have you back I’m not going to let anyone take you from me again.”
(Name) leaned up and gently kissed Marth on the cheek. “Thank you, Marth.” Marth and (Name) continued to hold each other as they sat in the field of flowers, embracing each other’s presence and warm embrace.
this was a commission for :iconmomokitty27: and is probably one of the longest one-shots I've ever written (equaling 8 pages) xD Hope you guys enjoy it!
I do not own the Fire Emblem Series (or Super Smash Brothers because that's what I found the picture under)
EDITED: Okay so I went back and changed a few things around in my story after listening to my mentor's advice. He said that I should be more descriptive when it comes to scenes where the senses such as feel or sight are involved so the details can pop out to the reader more. Do you guys think so too, or do you think I'm doing just fine the way I am?
