Chapter 8

Yao lifted himself from the ground after he heard the door shut and lock. He had to find a way out of here. How long has he been down here anyway? Did the others already realize he was missing?

He had to think. He had to get out of here and back to everyone else, but first he needed to find a way out of those chains. Then he remembered.. his dagger! He could use the small and sharp point to pick the locks. He reached into the pocket under his sleeve, but it wasn't there. He searched his under his other sleeve and it wasn't there either.

He sighed and plopped back against the cold stone wall. "Gaisi de…." How was he going to get out of this mess now? He heard footsteps approaching the door and snarled. He heard the jangle of keys and his door unlocking, and growled seeing him come in.

With (Name) and company

"Are you sure this is where Yao went searching, Ivan?" asked Arthur, looking around.

Ivan sighed and glanced down at the ground. A glint from a metallic tool had caught his eye. He bent down to pick it up, and upon further inspection, he realized it was Yao's dagger. "I'm sure now." He stood back up. "Look. I found his dagger."
Arthur stared at it in disbelief. "That's strange. He wouldn't just leave it behind like that."

Francis narrowed his eyes. "Unless something has happened to him, non?"

"You mean he could've been…" said (Name) with no need to continue.

"Let's not jump to conclusions yet," said Arthur calmly. "Let's keep searching, he's bound to be around here somewhere."

"Well how the hell are we gonna find him anywhere around here?" Alfred asked, leaning against a wall. Suddenly the wall opened up on its own, causing a shocked Alfred to shout and fall to the ground beneath him.

"Well there's a start," said Vash. Everyone peeked in the new open space of the wall to where Alfred had fallen down.

"Little help here?" Alfred said from down there. Arthur jumped down and got Alfred back up to his feet, and the rest jumped down after him.

"Well this is a depressing place," said (Name).

"Get your hands off of me, filthy bastard!"

Everyone's head shot up. That voice could only belong to one person. "Let's go!" Arthur
ordered and ran ahead with everyone following behind him. They ran until they came to a door made of steel that was slightly ajar, and Arthur pushed it completely open to see Yao struggling against the captain of the Treasure Hunters, who had a tight grip on Yao's arm.

Arthur snarled in anger and pulled out his sword. "Unhand him now!"

The captain snarled. "You again." His eyes darted over to (Name), who instantly tensed up but did her best to hide it. The captain smirked. "And you. Even in those unfitting clothes I'd recognize you anywhere, my princess." Francis and Vash looked behind  and faced the oncoming pirates behind them, his back to everyone else, and there were even more of them behind the captain, and they all looked ready to attack.

They were surrounded.

Arthur snarled even more and put himself between (Name) and the captain protectively. "You won't lay a finger on her!"

"I beg to differ. How about we make a deal?" The captain yanked Yao off of the ground and snaked his arm around his neck, making Yao squirm trying to get out of his tight grip. "A trade more like it. You'll hand her over and I'll let him go unharmed." (Name) tensed up even more.

"Don't listen to him!" Yao begged, which in return made the captain's grip around his neck tighten and almost cut off his air supply.

"You don't have much of a choice. Make the wrong one and we'll attack your friends."
(Name) knew he wasn't bluffing. Besides, she couldn't stand seeing Yao this way. Did that man really want her that bad? Would she only make things worse if she told him she wasn't the real princess or not?

"Let him go, I'll go with you." Everyone else stared wide eyed at her.

"(Name), don't!" Yao begged desperately.

"I won't let him take you (Name)," Arthur protested, but she merely shook her head.

"I can't let this man hurt Yao, or you, or anyone else here." (Name) took a step forward and wrapped Arthur in a warm hug. "I'm sorry, but I have to do this. I hope you understand."

Arthur's heart clenched, but he slowly wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer, and whispered where only she would hear. "I'll come find you poppet. I promise." She nodded slightly and held onto him tighter. He held her a bit longer until she pulled away

"Goodbye Arthur…" she said and walked away from him. The captain let loose of his hold on Yao and pushed him, making him stumble forward.

Yao looked down sadly. "I'm so sorry.. this is all my fault.."

(Name) smiled softly at him and hugged him. "Don't blame yourself. I want to keep you and everyone else safe.

Yao pulled back looked at her, seeming troubled. "Not like this, please.."

"Hurry up, I don't like waiting princess," the captain said.

(Name) sighed. "I'm sorry Yao, but I have to go. I'll miss you." Before Yao could protest any further, she stepped out of his arms and went to the captain, cruel satisfaction written all over his face. He punched a place in the wall and one part slid open, letting sunlight in.

(Name) took one last look at all of her friends, wishing they didn't have such sad looks on their faces, before she was escorted away from all of them, heading away from the city, and probably never to return again.
