Literature Text

It was Kenma and Kuroo’s second year in junior high, and, much to Kuroo’s dismay, Kenma was still an introvert to everyone but him. He decided that he would try and get Kenma to talk to others and make new friends, maybe even a girlfriend if miracles existed.

"Nah, not gonna shoot that far yet," Kuroo said as he walked down the hallway. He heard whispers coming from the other students while their gazes were directed at a (h/c) girl who was grabbing books from her locker.

"She's a strange one isn't she?" One girl said to her friends. "I heard all she does all day is play video games. It's a wonder how she has good grades. She doesn't even talk to anyone either."

"Wow, what a weirdo," the other girl said. "She's a girl, shouldn't she be more interested in boys and makeup? She just looks average to me."

"Worse than average," another girl said as she walked away with the other two.

(Name) kept her head held down and held her books, pretending not to hear the things being said behind her back. She just kept quiet and headed down the hallway to her next class, but ended up stumbling into someone in the hallway and caused them both to drop their books. She looked up and was able to recognize the boy named Kenma who she went to elementary school with standing there and looking at her with.. Concern? No, that probably wasn't the case. Who would be concerned about a screw up like her? She stumbled with her words and knelt down to pick up the books and papers that had fallen to the floor. "I-I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going!"

"It's fine," Kenma said as he knelt down to help. "Are you alright?"

(Name) nodded and averted her eyes once more as she gathered her things into her arms once more, bowing her head to him. "Thank you, and sorry for running into you." (Name) gripped her books uneasily as she nearly sprinted away to her next class.

Kuroo came up to Kenma after witnessing the ordeal and patted his shoulder. "It looks like you don't even need me to get you talking to other people."

"She just bumped into me by accident," Kenma said with a calm and laid back expression. "That's all."

Kuroo shrugged his shoulders and leaned with his back against the wall. "Wasn't that (Name) from elementary school? I haven't noticed her here."

"She's in the same year as us," Kenma said. "How did you not notice."

"No clue," Kuroo said. "I guess she doesn't even want to be noticed."

"I guess not," Kenma said while looking in the direction (Name) had left. "She must be lonely, though. I keep hearing people make fun of her."

Kuroo raised an eyebrow at him but couldn't keep the smile from forming on his face. "Well if you're worried about her, then go talk to her. I'm sure you two will get along pretty well. You're both socially awkward and you both love video games. That's a plus, right?"

Kenma grumbled narrowed his eyes at Kuroo. "She's not good with people and I'm not good with people. Wouldn't that mean we wouldn't be good with each other?"

"Well you'll never know unless you try, right?"

Kenma sighed and rolled his eyes. "Fine, whatever. I'll talk to her during lunch time."

"Does she even eat in the cafeteria? I never see her in there."

"You never see her anyway," Kenma mumbled.

"Whatever. Just give it a shot, alright? You never know what could happen."

"I know, I know. No need to keep reminding me. I'll see you after school and tell you how it went."

"I'll be waiting to hear all about it."

Kenma nodded and held his books in his arms as he headed towards his class.

~*~

Lunchtime had finally started and Kenma was walking through the hallways looking through the classrooms, carrying his lunch in his hands. If he was lucky, he would end up finding (Name) in one of them.

Sure enough, he eventually came to an empty classroom and saw (Name) playing on a gaming console enthusiastically while she ate her lunch.

Kenma knocked on the open door, making her jump and hide her gaming console under the desk as he caught her attention. "Hey, is the seat next to you taken?"

(Name) went quiet once more and shook her head. Kenma sat down next to her and opened up his lunch box. "You don't have to hide that, you know."

"H-huh?" (Name) said, barely above a whisper. Kenma pointed down the the hand that still held the gaming console. (Name) reluctantly pulled it out again, noticing it had ended up at a Game Over screen from her failure to pause the game. "I-it isn't weird to you?"

"No," Kenma said bluntly. "Why should it be? There's no reason girls can't play video games."

(Name) shuffled awkwardly in her seat and kept her eyes down. "Everyone else thinks that I'm odd for it..."

"Well I'm not everyone else," Kenma said. "I love video games, too."

"Yeah but you're a guy.. It's more normal for guys to play video games.."

Kenma shrugged and ate some of his lunch. "That's just a stereotype. I love video games but you have the right to love them to. Everyone does.

(Name) lifted her head to look at him with a small smile on her face. "You're actually the first person who hasn't called me weird for loving video games.."

"Well people can be jerks," Kenma said. "That's why Kuroo is my only friend even though he can be a jerk sometimes too." Kenma pulled his own gaming console out of a pocket in his book bag. "You play Mario Kart? I was looking for someone to play Multiplayer with."

"Yes." (Name)'s smile widened as she pulled her own copy out of her pencil case.

"Sweet. Wanna play?"

"Sure." (Name) shut the system off and replaced her current game with her copy of Mario Kart. They spent the rest of lunch time racing against each other, throwing Koopa shells back and forth at each other, and just having an amazing time playing against each other. Kuroo was right, they ended up getting along very smoothly.

(Name) waved to Kenma once school was over and headed in the opposite direction from him to go back to her house. Kenma waved back and waited until Kuroo got out and caught up with him. "So, how'd it go?"

"It went well," Kenma said, though the widening smile on his face said that there was more to the story.

"C'mon Kenma, give me the details!" Kuroo hit his shoulder playfully and walked next to him. "What was she like? Did she say anything to you?"

"We actually had a good time," Kenma said. "We are lunch and played Mario Kart together until lunch ended. She's like a completely different person when she's playing video games, too. She seems.. More alive."

Kuroo chuckled and ruffled Kenma's hair like a proud father or older brother would. "See, I told you you two would get along, didn't I?"

Kenma rolled his eyes and playfully punched Kuroo in the shoulder. "I know, thanks for that. I think I'll be able to talk to her more often now."

"Sweet, I knew you'd be able to get another friend." Kuroo waved at him as he got to his doorway. "See you in, like, five minutes or so." Kuroo went into his house and disappeared behind his door as Kenma went into his own house.

Now Kenma, Kuroo, and (Name) were in their first year of high school together, and Kenma was still glad that he could look back to that one day in particular and still be glad that he decided to talk to her.

He and (Name) were still very close to this day. As a matter of fact, they were an official couple now. He gathered the courage to ask her out about three months ago, and she happily said yes.

Today they decided to enjoy their break from school with an assortment of snack and a whole bunch of video games. (Name) sat on the floor with him, sitting on his lap and leaning against him as they played Mario Kart 64 together, just like they did in their junior high days except more intimate than before. "Same rules apply, the loser kisses the winner?" (Name) said, looking up at him with a delightful gleam in her eyes.

"Wouldn't that make us both winners?" Kenma said while wrapping his arms around her as she faced the television.

"Kinda, although only one of us will be going across the finish line in the game."

Kenma snickered and glued his eyes to the screen. "You're on." (Name) grinned mischievously as they started the round off. She kept her cart at a close distance to Kenma's up until the last lap. "Oh no, don't tell me.."

A playful smirk crept across (Name)'s lips as she released her red Koopa shell and hit him spot on to win the position of first place at the last second, cheering for her victory. "I saved that shell just for you, baby~"

Kenma laughed softly and hugged (Name) closer to him. "I guess that means I get to kiss you now?"

"Indeed it does," (Name) said as she turned to face him and wrapped her arms around his neck.

"This is the best consolation prize ever." Kenma leaned down and tenderly kissed (Name) while resting his hands on her hips. (Name) grinned and kissed him back, tilting her head to deepen it. They held onto each other and remained in the passionate kiss for what seemed like an eternity before they managed to pull away from each other. Kenma had a huge smile on his face as (Name) cuddled up to him, allowing him to wrap an arm around her shoulder. Yep, I'm definitely glad I talked to her back then.
Well look who finally started writing for Haikyuu

I managed to work on it last night while I couldn't sleep and I'm quite proud of how it turned out. I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing this.

OH by the way, I'll be attending my first comic-con in Raleigh this Saturday and more importantly I'll finally meet the closest person to a sister that I have in person. If any of you guys are planning to go as well, I'd be more than happy to meet you. Depending on whether or not I have everything I need, I'll be in cosplay. I'll either go as Jeff the Killer or the Tenth Doctor if I'm able to get all of the items for that cosplay by then. I'm very excited for this >w<

I do not own you or Haikyuu. Picture from the anime.
