You reluctantly followed you best friend into the auditorium of your school. It was the Valentine's Day dance and no matter how hard you protested, (best friend's name) kept begging you to go and even took you shopping for the dance a couple of weeks ago. You just couldn't say no to them once they had their mind set on making you go to events like this.

Of course they were only trying to get you to open up to people more often, but it was still pretty hard for you to talk to others. Right now you only wished to be back home in the comfort of your room and marathon something on Netflix, but it didn't seem like that was going to happen.

"It'll be fun, (Name)," they repeated for the millionth time since they heard about it as they dragged you into the crowded room with them.

"I don't care..." You said as you shied away from anyone who got too close. "It's too crowded here and I probably don't even look decent enough to be here. Can't I just leave?"

"No way, this dance is just getting started!" Your best friend excitedly walked along while dragging you to a table where they managed to get a spot to sit down. "Oh and by the way, guess who else is going to be here tonight."

You sighed to yourself and sat down in a rather uncomfortable steel chair with them, fidgeting with your outfit. "Who?"

"Francis Bonnefoy~" They said in a singsong voice while you froze up and hid your face in your hands hearing your crush's name. "I see you still have a crush on him. He's really nice when he talks to you, too. Maybe if you're lucky he'll ask you for a dance."

"I highly doubt it," you muttered inaudibly as you shook your head. Why was he going to be here anyway? Oh right, he was part of the student council. Of course he was going to be here. You groaned and kept your face covered with your hands, wishing you were anywhere but here right now. 'Why me?' you thought to yourself before you felt (BFN) take your hand again.

"Let's go out on the dance floor, (Name)!" They chimed as they pulled you out of your seat to join the crowd of people already gathered on the dance floor.

"D-Do I have to?!" You exclaimed over the music as it started blasting through the room. You were suddenly subjected to your doom as other people around you started dancing to the beat of the song and leaving you no clear path of escape.

You were trapped there for what seemed like hours before you finally managed to slip past the crowd, and more importantly away from (BFN). You sighed and stood with your back against the wall, being more comfortable as the wallflower you actually were. You just stood there and watched other people enjoy themselves on the dance floor while being relieved that you were no longer stuck in the crowd. So relieved, in fact, that you failed to notice someone approaching you. "Are you not having any fun?" Came the all too familiar French accent from the young man standing in front of you.

You came to your senses as your eyes met the stunning blue eyes of none other than Francis Bonnefoy. "F-Francis?" You stuttered as you quickly averted your eyes. "I-it's not that, i-it's just that I'm not big on social events."

"Ah, I see," he said as stood next to you and leaned with his back against the wall. "(BFN) told me about that. It sounds more like you have social anxiety to me."

You simply nodded and kept your eyes cast downwards as a small blush crept across your face. "I-I'm sorry if I'm not being very fun... I'm sure you put a lot of hard work into this.."

"Oui, but I helped put this dance together for everyone's enjoyment." Francis looked towards you with a warm smile on his face. "Even if you don't dance, you could still enjoy the music and the atmosphere. That would be perfect for someone like you, no?"

You managed to glance in his direction while giving him a short nod. "Yeah, I guess you're right."

"But I would enjoy my time here even more if you agreed to have just one dance with me. If you want to, that is."

Your face lit up with a deep shade of red as you stumbled mentally with your words. "H-huh? W-why me?"

"Because I want you to enjoy yourself, too," Francis said. "It doesn't have to be a sophisticated dance or anything. Maybe a simple slow dance will do the trick?"

You started fidgeting nervously with your outfit once again and looked away from him again. "I've never danced with anyone before..."

Francis smiled once more and held out his hand as a slow song started to play in the room. "It'll be alright. Just follow my lead as well as you can."

You tried to think of something to say, but you just nodded shyly and took his hand into your own and followed him out to the dance floor. For everyone to see, and for everyone to stare. 'Just give me a hole to hide in,' you thought to yourself as you followed Francis and practically hid behind him on the way.

"Relax, (Name)," Francis said as he rested one hand on the small of your back and continued holding your hand into the other, pulling you closer to him as he helped you get into a dancing position. "You could trip over you own two feet if you're too tense while you're dancing."

"I-I'll try," you said as you took a deep breath and let him take the lead. You watched his feet as they moved underneath you and copied his motions to the best of your ability while trying not to make a fool of yourself.

"You're doing just fine," Francis said in a soft tone of voice as he danced in slow circles with you. "You're a fast learner."

"T-thanks," you muttered as you kept your eyes averted. Francis couldn't help but smile down at you as you started to blush uncontrollably.

After a couple of minutes the song ended and they both stopped dancing. You mustered the courage to look up at Francis as he removed his hand from your back. "Did you enjoy that, (Name)?"

You nodded and managed to keep eye contact with him as a small smile crept onto your lips, although you felt ready to jump out of your skin. "Y-yeah, I did. Thank you for dancing with me."

"De rien, (Name)," Francis said, leaning down and planting a gentle kiss on your cheek. "For the record, I'd ask you to dance with me all over again."

You stood there feeling as though your legs had turned into jello as Francis winked at you walked away to join the other student council members at the other end of the room. You trudged back to your seat and joined (BFN) who was waiting for you. "Did I just see you dancing with Francis Bonnefoy, or am I just seeing things? Because I'm pretty sure that just happened."

"Oh shut up," you said with your face buried in your hands. You couldn't be more embarrassed by their sudden remark as you were now.

"Tell me, did you like it? What did he say to you? Did he actually kiss you?" Scratch that, you were way more embarrassed now. "Please tell me how it went."

You groaned and sent a glare in (BFN)'s direction. "I'll explain later. Just give me time to sit down, alright?"

(BFN) raised their hands in surrender. "Alright alright, just give me every single detail when we get back to your house." You sighed and rubbed your temple. No matter what event they dragged you into, (BFN) always had a tendency of making you ask yourself 'Why me?'
Well look who's back to writing Hetalia fanfics

Well this is my Valentines Day special to you all. It's a little different because I decided to make the reader and the reader's best friend gender neutral so no one would feel left out. ; u ; (Also, it's a high school AU)

Tell me what you guys think about it and whether or not I should try writing gender neutral stories more often or not. And the outfit that France has in the preview picture is sorta what I pictured him wearing in the story. :3

I do not own you or Hetalia
